Notes |
- During winter, Robert Magee would leave Fenelon Falls as a bush worker or Lumber Jack. He stayed in the Lumber company's Bush Camps, leaving his wife and daughter home alone. Margaret Ann had a cow which she fed, watered and milked daily, to provide the milk required for everyday living. The cow gave more milk than one small family could use so she sold the excess to some of her neighbours and as a girl Ruby delivered the milk before school each morning. The sale of milk provided her with
whatever money she would have until her husband returned in the spring, following the river drive.
I still have the little rocking chair in which she sat for hours, a bread-board on her lap and with the dictionary and her bible beside her to write numerous letters to friends and relatives living in other parts of Canada.
Crocheting and quilting for a past time has left most of her family with tablecloths and quilts, which conjure up her ambitious personality in their memory. - Cliff Alger
